Levitra

What is Levitra?

Levitra is mainly used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction, commonly known as impotence. Since the drug relaxes your muscles and helps to increase blood to flow in particular areas of the body, the drug is sometimes used for other purposes too. You must never combine Levitra with a nitrate drug for chest pain or heart problems.

Levitra has been approved by the FDA. It is available as tablets ranging from 2.5 mg. to 20 mg. tablets. The tablet has to be taken once a day. The main function of the drug is to increase blood flow to the penis and the man can have an erection that will last long enough to have successful sex. When the sexual activity is over, the blood flow to the penis decreases and the erection also goes away.

The drug has been clinically tested and it has been proved that erectile function can be improved, even in men who have health problems related to high cholesterol, high blood pressure or diabetes. The men who took Levitra had harder erections and were successful in maintaining their erections for a long period of time, so that they could have sex successfully. It is possible that some men would have to take the drug regularly and others once in a while and hence the drug should be taken only in consultation with the doctor.

Naturally an erection cannot occur as soon as you pop in a pill. That is why the prescription of the doctor is important, for example the dose and how you should take it, with or without food. Sometimes it is only taken when it is needed, for example, about an hour before sexual activity. The medication therefore can help you to achieve an erection when sexual stimulation occurs. It is possible that you may not be on a dosing schedule at all.

When you are taking Levitra, it is better to avoid drinking alcohol, so that you don’t get any side effects. Sour foods like grapefruit or grapefruit juice may not agree with Levitra as well. It is best to consult your doctor about your food habits, so that he can advise you on the dos and don’ts in relation to the medication.

After taking Levitra, if there is dizziness and nausea, pain and numbness or a tingling sensation in your chest, arms, and neck during sexual activity, a doctor should immediately be consulted. This could be one of the side effects of the drug.

In any case, Levitra should not be taken more than once a day. There should be a gap of at least twenty four hours between doses. Also, a doctor should be consulted if the erection is painful or it lasts longer than four hours. There can be permanent damage to the penis, if the erection is prolonged.
