Celebrex Overview

Celebrex is an FDA-approved drug used to treat signs and symptoms of rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. It has a secondary function to manage acute pain in adults. Because it is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), it provides analgesic effects, and at higher doses anti-inflammatory effects. Users can be prescribed the drug by a doctor or pharmacist, however it is best to know the full effects, dosages, and side effects of Celebrex before using the product.

Before Usage

There are cases where usage of Celebrex lead to severe damage in intestines and stomach, and it is possible for individuals with no history of heart disease to suffer a heart attack or stroke while the drug is in effect.

Because Celebrex has proven to be fatal for those with certain health conditions, inform the prescribing doctor, pharmacist, or medical professional about all pre-existing (includes family history) and current medical conditions:

  1. Heart problems, stroke, or clot;
  2. Having a “coronary artery bypass graft” (CABG) heart surgery;
  3. Bleeding or ulcers in esophagus, stomach, or intestines;
  4. An allergy to aspirin or other NSAIDs;
  5. Fluid retention;
  6. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes;
  7. Heart, liver, or kidney disease;
  8. Asthma attacks or other respiratory problems;
  9. Taking other medication (prescribed or over-the-counter);
  10. Smoking, or drinking; etc.

Please discuss all options for pain, inflammation, or arthritis treatment with your doctor.

Treating Arthritis | Pain Management

Arthritis is a chronic, long-term condition, characterised by swelling of the joints, causing stiffness and discomfort. It can be recognised by a normally painful inflammation of the joints afflicted, and limited movement. Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis, with the protective cartilage in joints wearing thin, and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is the most common type of autoimmune arthritis that affects the wrists and small joints in the hands (includes knuckles and middle joints in fingers) and has a type that affects those two years or older known as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA). Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a spinal arthritis that mainly affects young men, though most forms of arthritis usually target an older demographic.

There are no cures for most types of arthritis, and cases where genetic predisposition is involved would have more trouble in preventing the condition. But there are techniques available to move past the pain and movement issues, such as low-impact exercises (eg. Pilates or yoga), or making sure to not stay in one position for too long. Celebrex is used primarily to treat the signs and symptoms of arthritis.

Acute pain management is the secondary function of Celebrex, aimed to provide pain relief within an hour. This can also be prescribed for menstrual cramps. Of course, results differ between individual users.

For Osteoarthritis:

"Celebrex allows me to go day to day almost pain free. Nothing else fights my pain caused by osteoarthritis of the upper spine. I have taken 200 mg once a day on and off for over 15 years. Occasionally I do need to take it daily for a few weeks. I am so grateful for this med and for the doctors who prescribe it. I strongly recommend it." Taken for 10+ years.

For Rheumatoid Arthritis:

"I was given Celebrex for arthritis in my knee. After taking it for about two weeks I started to notice not only was my knee better and I was able to resume all of my normal activities with no pain, but my foot that had been suffering from plantar fasciitis for two and a half years was finally not hurting. I had been through every treatment and three different foot doctors with no relief at all. Celebrex is by far the best medicine I have taken and it has given me back my life in more ways than one." Taken for 2-5 years.

For Pain:

"I experienced a lot of pain in my lower back, and there was a shooting pain down my leg for months. I had increasing difficulty in walking and sleeping. I had been forced to use a cane and a scooter to get around and I could no longer walk any distance. I had to stop physical therapy because the pain was too bad and epidural injections seemed to offer little relief. The MRI indicated that I had tissue from a herniated disc and protruding disc was pressing on the nerves so I was scheduled for surgery. I was given a prescription for Celebrex (250 mg twice a day) 8 weeks before surgery to help relieve the pain. One week before surgery, I was told to stop taking Celebrex. The pain has not returned and the surgery was cancelled. I am now essentially pain-free!" Taken for 1-6 months.
