What is Aciphex?

Aciphex is a drug utilized to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Aciphex can also promote healing of erosive esophagitis, which is damage to the esophagus caused by stomach acid.

Important Information

Below are a number of key points you should consider before taking Aciphex. As with all prescription drugs, consult a medical professional prior to starting to take Axiphex.

You should not use Aciphex if you are allergic to rabeprazole or to similar medicines such as lansoprazole (Prevacid), esomeprazole (Nexium), omeprazole (Prilosec, Zegerid), or pantoprazole (Protonix).

You may require specific dosing or special tests to safely take Aciphex if you suffer from severe liver disease.

Some conditions are treated with a combination of Aciphex and antibiotics.

Taking Aciphex may increase your risk of bone fracture in the hip, wrist, or spine. Tell your doctor if you have osteoporosis or osteopenia (low bone mineral density) prior to taking Aciphex.

Aciphex is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby but you should tell your doctor regardless if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant while taking Aciphex.

What should I know before taking Aciphex?

Below are guidelines you should follow when taking Aciphex:

Take Aciphex exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

Aciphex is usually given for 4 to 8 weeks only. Your doctor may recommend a second course of treatment if you need additional healing time.

This mediciation should be taken with 8 ounces of water.

Aciphex may be taken with or without food.

You should swallow Aciphex whole. Breaking or splitting the pill may result in too much of the drug being released at one time.

Take Aciphex for the fully prescribed length of time even if your symptoms improve before the infection is completely cleared. Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse while you are taking Aciphex.

Aciphex should be stored at room temperature and away from moisture and heat.

Ingredients

The active ingredient in ACIPHEX Delayed-Release Tablets is rabeprazole sodium, a substituted benzimidazole that inhibits gastric acid secretion.
